Our Story
From a French village to Potrero Hill
Le Marché Cezanne was born from a simple idea: to bring an authentic taste of France to San Francisco.
Growing up in the small village of Gourgeon in eastern France, our founder, Mario, learned that food is much more than what we eat. It is a way of life. Every village has its neighborhood épicerie—a place where people stop in each day for fresh bread, cheese, butter, wine, and the ingredients that bring family and friends together around the table.
After moving to San Francisco and working at La Fromagerie, Mario realized how difficult it was to find a place that truly captured the feeling of a French grocery store. He dreamed of creating an épicerie where people could rediscover the flavors of France, explore regional specialties, and experience the everyday products found in French homes.
Together with his business partner from La Fromagerie, that dream became Le Marché Cezanne.
When we opened our doors in 2022, every detail reflected that vision. Mario and his father personally laid the tile floor and handcrafted the "Local Market" mosaic at the entrance, creating a warm and welcoming space inspired by the neighborhood grocery stores found throughout France.
Today, Le Marché Cezanne offers a carefully curated selection of French cheeses, charcuterie, butter, wines, biscuits, chocolates, pantry staples, frozen specialties, and regional delicacies, alongside freshly prepared sandwiches, salads, pastries, and coffee inspired by French café culture.
Whether you're a French expat looking for a taste of home, planning an apéritif with friends, discovering French cuisine for the first time, or searching for the perfect ingredients for your next meal, we invite you to experience the flavors, traditions, and art of living that make France so unique.
At Le Marché Cezanne, every product tells a story, every visit is an invitation to discover something new, and every customer is welcomed as a guest.
Bienvenue à Le Marché Cezanne—your French grocery store in San Francisco.
